1st P.C.BUILD,UP AND RUNNING-NOW WHAT? AM A NOVICE AT THIS,STAFF AT COMPUSA ARE WORSE THEN I AM?
Well first Check all Connections and not just once but multiple times, I wish you would have listed your power supply.

Is everything getting power? And try a different mouse and keyboard. Thats all I can say from here.

Please! Do NOT type in caps, it makes it annoying and difficult to read.
Reply:Im guessing the hard drive is blank so try installing an operating system before you go any further
Reply:If your floppy drive light is on constantly, you have it connected wrong. Turn off the PC, unplug the floppy drive ribbon cable from the back of the drive and flip it over. Plug it back in. That should work now. If don't need it, unplug it altogether.

Unknown keyboard and mouse is strange. Windows should plug and play them with no problems. Are they USB devices?

How powerful is the power supply you installed?
Reply:Sweet Mother. Learn to use punctuation and don't type in all caps!

I have been working with computers for a long time, and not once have I ever seen an "Unknown Keyboard" or "Unknown Mouse" error. I have seen "Missing keyboard" errors. Is that what you mean?

If you don't have a working keyboard, you won't be able to install your operating system. Once you get your keyboard working enter your BIOS by pressing whatever key it says (usually tab, F1, F2, F8, Del). Set your boot order to begin with the CDROM and you should be able to boot off of the CD that you have for your OS (windows I assume)
Reply:1st thing to do is relax.

1) Unplug Computer power supply and look inside to make sure you have power to all hardware and cables are all plugged in correctly.

Check to see what you have for master/slave settings.

2) Plug in power supply, keyboard, mouse and monitor.

3) Turn on computer and go to bios. System should tell you how to get to bios. Normal is F1 or Esc

Have settings for boot up with CD/ROM support 1st, then hard-drive.

4) Once these issues are fixed then load operating system and other hardware software.

5) On Mother Board lead issue: Check your paperwork on mother board to make sure your pins are place correctly on the mother board.
Reply:Will try to answer, though mostly by logic rather than

experiance.....

#1 equip. you listed suggest 300-350 PS adequate, but

you didn't list....would therefor use 400W

#2 floppy light on/wrong...proably hooked up reverse ....

purpose ? games ! Light is to signify activity...should not be on if not working....

#3 keyboards cost $9.97/Walmart...try it, or borrow one

don't think your going anywhere till it's working

#4 disconect power cord/then go through system to find loose/unconnected wires...by the way, I know, you gonna

LOL, but is Mobo one you scrounged ?

they do go bad/if it is...no bios?

computers, read / load the OS and then start up...if bios bad

this can't happen

seems to me that AMD790 wasen't around in 98, so it looks like a recient mobo but is it an "out the box" one, which someone returned to dealer? Also, I think your mobo/bios

should have correctly connected the keyboard as it is a nessessary part of the set up procedure for it to be funtional,

when starting a new system up/ that is, if it is a good one

(keyboard) P.S. you could have installed a trogan/spibot

etc. when you put the scrounged HD's into your setup....

#5 in conclusion....you get what you pay for...

but then most people learn to build their own on used equipment anyway, so fix(replace)keyboard first...then

check your connections...befor you power up, and see

what happens...then come back to "answers" and let us know

what's happenning...most of us admit were not experts,

but multiple input helps(but you won't get it if you don't ask)
